Getting started

WebF1 DataPad is a desktop data workbench for programmers and DBAs: you write C# against a named database connection and read the results in a grid, without leaving the app.

The workbench

The window is split into three panes.

• The connections panel on the left lists the databases you have added, with their schema trees.
• The script editor in the middle is where you write C#. It opens a small starter buffer so the first run works immediately.
• The output pane on the bottom holds the ordered results of a run: value blocks, tables, and JSON detail.

Drag any divider to resize a pane; the sizes persist across restarts.

Run your first script

1. Add a connection (see the Connections topic) and select it in the editor header’s connection dropdown, or leave the dropdown on (No connection) to run without a database.
2. Type a query in the editor, for example context.Albums.Take(100).Dump();.
3. Press F5 or click Run in the toolbar. Stop cancels a run that is still in flight.

A connectionless run is supported: the editor never requires a connection. With a connection attached, the script’s context object exposes the schema’s tables and columns under their C# names.

Read the grid

Each Dump() call appends a block to the output pane, in call order:

• a value block for a scalar (with a label when you pass one),
• a table block for a sequence of records (with a labelled total above it),
• a property block for a single object,
• a navigation block for a related record, and
• a JSON block for a JSON column’s document.

Where the features live

• Help → Features… lists every capability as a card.
• Help → How to… opens this searchable instruction set (what you are reading).
• View → Settings holds Themes, License, Encryption, Backup, Shortcuts, and MCP server.
